Supertato Author comes to visit

We were excited to welcome the author of the best-selling book series Supertato into school as part of our World Book Day celebrations. Sue Hendra has been creating picture books for 30 years and together with writing partner Paul Linnet, they have created over 15 books about Supertato, the supermarket superhero, which is also a Cbeebies show.

Sue and Paul have created many other characters such as Barry the Fish with Fingers and No-bot the robot with no bottom. She spent the day at Brantridge and ran workshops for our pupils along our World Book Day themes of recycling.

Sue read the latest Supertato story to the younger pupils and encouraged them to create their own super hero or villain characters using fruit and vegetables accessorised with masks and capes.

For the older pupils, Sue read Book vs Shark from another of their series ‘I Spy Island’. She then encouraged the boys to go and plan their own ‘I Spy Island’ stories using the recycled materials they had brought in as their central characters.

Everyone threw themselves into the tasks and the groups listened attentively as their classmates shared their ideas with Sue and the group. Sue was very impressed with everyone’s ideas and even photographed a few to help inspire her future writing. She also kindly dedicated and signed books for the classes and to be taken home.
