Hello Yellow for World Mental Health Day
This World Mental Health Day, celebrated on October 10th, shone particularly bright at Brantridge School. Thank you to everyone for supporting YoungMinds and raising awareness of this vital charity that works to enhance the mental health of young people. On what was a rather ‘grey’ and rainy day, it was uplifting to see so much yellow worn by pupils and staff as part of the HELLO YELLOW project.
Ladka Hrangova, Mental Health Lead, attended some classes and held several one-on-one sessions with our students, asking them if they understood the reason behind the yellow outfits. It was wonderful to discover that our pupils identified it as a symbol for World Mental Health Day and support for YoungMinds, a charity dedicated to assisting young people. Simply incredible!
Throughout the day, each class adapted their activities to include watching videos on mental health, exploring ways to care for their wellbeing, identifying when they may face mental health challenges, and knowing where to seek help.
The pupils eagerly doodled what brings them joy, discussed strategies for enhancing their wellbeing, and some classes utilised affirmation cards to help them acknowledge their strengths. And of course, we included football, with interested pupils participating in penalty shootouts. Brantridge might just be able to assemble a new England team to win the World Cup on their current form!
World Mental Health Day also served to emphasize our whole-school approach to mental health and to recognize the outstanding work everyone does at Brantridge. Staff wore yellow (we had some impressive outfits!) and were rewarded with cake at the end of the day.
We hope you had a bright day on October 10th, and that the positivity continues.
