Building skills through animal care and gardening
Pupils from Ramsey class have enjoyed hands-on animal care and gardening sessions this term, demonstrating enthusiasm, teamwork and a growing sense of responsibility.
The sessions begin in the school’s animal area, where the pupils help to feed the animals. They have shown great interest in the task and always have a positive attitude and eagerness to learn more about animal welfare.
The pupils carefully explore the chicken coop and are thrilled when they discover lots of eggs. They proudly share their finds with one another, creating moments of celebration and friendship. The activity provides valuable opportunities to develop communication skills, practise turn-taking and experience a shared sense of achievement.
In the school gardens, the pupils work together on a variety of gardening tasks. Demonstrating excellent teamwork, they have cleared weeds from around the plant beds and helped prepare the area for future growth. Using both their hands and gardening tools, the pupils carefully remove unwanted plants before turning the soil.
The pupils have taken turns using the equipment and have shown increasing confidence in their abilities. Their willingness to get involved and support one another highlights the positive impact of outdoor learning experiences.
Practical activities can help develop important life skills while encouraging teamwork, communication and confidence. The school is fortunate to have such fantastic animals and outdoor spaces, which continue to provide valuable learning opportunities for our pupils.
