Brantridge School celebrates a magical World Book Week
Brantridge School was brimming with creativity and imagination as pupils and staff came together to celebrate an action‑packed World Book Week, inspired by Mikey Please’s enchanting book The Café at the Edge of the Woods.
Throughout the week, pupils took part in a range of exciting literary‑themed activities designed to spark a love of reading and storytelling. A visiting storyteller captivated the pupils with lively retellings of traditional tales, each with an unexpected twist that delighted pupils across the school. Their energy and imagination set the tone for a week full of adventure.
Adding to the creative buzz, the school welcomed back popular illustrator James “The Crazy Comic Guy”, who led engaging drawing sessions. Pupils enjoyed developing their own comic strips, bringing characters and ideas to life through expressive artwork and humour.
Upper School pupils also had the special opportunity to join an online workshop with celebrated author Michael Rosen. Inspired by food‑themed prompts, pupils created their own mini illustrated books, packed with inventive characters such as heroic pizzas, killer cheeses, and detective broccoli. The workshop proved to be a highlight, encouraging pupils to experiment with language and storytelling.
World Book Day itself was celebrated in style on Thursday. Pupils and staff arrived dressed either as their aspirational future selves or in cosy pyjamas and the school was filled with colour, creativity and personality. Classes also took part in a “drop everything and read” session and gathered with Miss Lyons for a shared story time, enjoying the next chapter of the school’s chosen book together.
Festivities concluded on Friday with a whole‑school parade showcasing the beautiful dream catchers pupils had crafted during the week. Everyone then enjoyed a woodland picnic featuring imaginative “ogre‑inspired” treats, including worm cakes and slug goo, adding a fun and memorable twist to the celebration.
To round off the week, each pupil selected a new book to take home, encouraging a love of reading beyond the classroom. The school’s staff “Masked Reader” competition added an extra layer of excitement, with pupils enthusiastically guessing the mystery readers behind the masks.
World Book Week at Brantridge School proved to be a joyful celebration of reading, creativity, and imagination, leaving pupils inspired and eager for their next literary adventure.
